Usain Bolt Reveals He's Ready to Join Viral Wythenshawe FC Veterans Team

The legendary sprinter could soon be making an appearance on a local football pitch. Usain Bolt has revealed he's prepared to join Wythenshawe FC Veterans, a non-league side that's captured worldwide attention with their remarkable roster of former stars.

This isn't your typical recreational football club. Wythenshawe Vets regularly features Premier League champions Danny Drinkwater and Marc Albrighton in their lineup. The squad also includes former Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, one-time Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland, and ex-Everton forward Oumar Niasse.

An astounding 17 players with top-tier English football experience are currently registered with the Football Association for Wythenshawe Vets. The impressive list includes former Manchester United player Antonio Valencia, Joleon Lescott, Maynor Figueroa, and Danny Simpson. English football icon Emile Heskey has even featured for the club.

The club has become a social media phenomenon, accumulating more than 30,000 TikTok followers. Beyond their celebrity status, they're dominating on the pitch as well. Wythenshawe Vets have secured victories in all five matches in the Cheshire Veterans Football League this campaign with an outstanding +42 goal differential.

Sprint Icon Says He's Prepared

During an exclusive conversation with talkSPORT from Miami, where he was attending a Formula E event, the eight-time Olympic champion was direct about his intentions. When questioned about potentially joining the celebrity-filled team, Bolt responded: "Listen, I'm ready. I'm ready. If I get into some shape, I'm ready to go."

The 39-year-old Jamaican superstar has previous football experience. Following his retirement from track and field in 2017, he joined Australian club Central Coast Mariners in 2018 for a trial period. He managed to find the net twice during a friendly match for the A-League side.

Nevertheless, Bolt never secured a professional contract. The Mariners extended an offer, but couldn't meet his salary requirements. He also had training stints with Norwegian club Stromsgodset and German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, though neither resulted in a deal.

Outside of participating in Soccer Aid charity exhibitions, Bolt has largely stayed away from competitive football. That could potentially change now. For non-league defenders in the Cheshire Veterans league, facing the world's fastest human being could prove to be an intimidating challenge.

Man United Supporter Bolt Endorses Carrick

The Olympic icon is also a devoted Manchester United fan. He offered his perspective on the Red Devils' enhanced performance under interim boss Michael Carrick.

"We finally look like we've turned a corner with Carrick because the players look happy, energised, focused, they look ready," Bolt shared with talkSPORT. He noted that while it may be premature to appoint Carrick permanently, three additional matches of encouraging football could shift his opinion.

For football enthusiasts tracking unconventional stories, Wythenshawe Vets remain undefeated this campaign and display no indication of declining. Should Bolt actually sign with them, their viral popularity would skyrocket – and their already remarkable goal difference could expand even further.
