West Brom Terminate Eric Ramsay's Contract Following Nine-Match Winless Run

Eric Ramsay's tenure as West Bromwich Albion manager has ended abruptly after a disastrous nine-match spell that failed to produce a single victory. The English Championship side announced the former Manchester United coach's dismissal late Tuesday evening at 11:15pm, bringing a premature end to his brief reign.

The 34-year-old tactician had only taken charge of the Baggies last month following the departure of Ryan Mason. However, his time at The Hawthorns proved catastrophic, with zero wins from nine fixtures painting a grim picture of his short-lived spell at the helm.

The decision to part ways came mere hours after West Brom's 1-1 stalemate against Charlton Athletic at home. That draw stretched the club's overall winless streak to 10 matches, although Ramsay was only responsible for nine of those results.

Relegation Threat Intensifies

The situation couldn't be more precarious for West Bromwich Albion supporters. The club finds itself languishing in 21st position in the Championship standings, clinging to safety by a single point above the relegation places. With just a dozen matches remaining in the campaign, the threat of dropping to League One has become frighteningly real.

Anyone who placed wagers on West Brom achieving a respectable mid-table finish has watched their bets crumble this season. The club has named James Morrison as interim manager as they attempt to navigate their way out of danger. Assistant coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed alongside Ramsay.

Promising Pedigree Proves Insufficient

Ramsay had established an impressive coaching résumé during his tenure at Manchester United. Between 2021 and his departure, he served under managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Erik ten Hag. His fluency in Spanish and French proved particularly valuable when helping international stars like Casemiro settle at Old Trafford.

Prior to accepting the West Brom position, Ramsay spent two seasons with Minnesota United in Major League Soccer. He also served briefly as Wales assistant manager in 2023, earning high praise from then-manager Rob Page, who described him as "arguably one of the best young coaches in football." Those accolades now seem like distant memories.

Following the Charlton stalemate, Ramsay acknowledged his share of responsibility for the team's struggles. "I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone," he stated to BBC WM. Regrettably, his efforts proved insufficient to preserve his position.
