Inter Miami Unveils $350-Million Stadium Featuring Dedicated Messi Stand Ahead of Saturday Opener

"This stadium was born from a dream," declared Jorge Mas, Inter Miami co-owner. It's remarkable to consider that just six years ago, this franchise didn't even exist. Now, the club boasts a state-of-the-art $350-million facility that includes a stand named after an active player — and that player happens to be Lionel Messi, who's set to feature in the starting lineup when the venue officially opens its doors Saturday evening against Austin FC.

David Beckham, the club's co-owner and global ambassador, was among the first to step onto the pitch during Thursday's open training session exclusively for season ticket holders. Messi, alongside Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez, joined him shortly thereafter, giving several thousand supporters their inaugural glimpse of the 26,700-capacity stadium. The official opening is scheduled for April 4th at 7:30 p.m. ET.

European-inspired design built to create an intimidating atmosphere

The stadium's European-style, football-specific architecture is no accident. Compact, thunderous, and constructed exclusively for the beautiful game — this isn't a converted baseball park or a shared NFL venue. Mas envisions it becoming "the home of football in the United States," and the thoughtful design supports that lofty goal.

The seating features an alternating pattern of pink, grey, and white, with black seats forming the Inter Miami name and creating a heron silhouette throughout the stands. Oversized photographs commemorating the club's 2025 MLS Cup championship run adorn the first concourse. Every detail conveys a singular message: this organization has officially made its mark.

The Leo Messi Stand — encompassing sections 117-121 in the lower bowl and 217-223 in the upper tier — honours the two-time MLS Most Valuable Player. Dedicating a stand to an actively playing member of the squad is virtually unprecedented in professional football at any level. Mas revealed he personally informed Messi about the tribute: "For a current player, this is extraordinary. It's going to be incredible."

Questions surrounding Messi's match fitness ahead of Saturday's kickoff

There's an important consideration, however. Messi participated in limited training following a two-match international window with Argentina, though he's still anticipated to start on Saturday. This qualifier should give pause to anyone considering backing Inter Miami for their home opener — not due to Austin FC's quality, but because a potentially under-conditioned Messi in an emotionally charged inaugural match represents an unpredictable variable rather than a guaranteed outcome.

Head coach Javier Mascherano kept his comments straightforward: "Hopefully on Saturday, the stadium will be packed. It's nearly sold out. It'll be a memorable day for everyone who's supported this club."

  • Total capacity: 26,700 seats
  • Construction cost: $350 million USD
  • Inaugural match: Inter Miami vs Austin FC, April 4th, 7:30 p.m. ET
  • The Leo Messi Stand: sections 117-121 (lower tier), 217-223 (upper tier)
  • Final seat installation and numbering ongoing before kickoff

Construction work surrounding the stadium complex and parking structure won't be completed by Saturday's opener. Designated fan pathways have been established, and security presence is substantial. Mas acknowledged there remain elements to "complete and refine" — but the pitch is match-ready, the majority of seats are installed, and supporters will turn out in force regardless of the finishing touches.
