Kompany Offloads Cheshire Estate for $5.5M as Bayern Munich Commitment Solidifies
Vincent Kompany has parted ways with his luxurious Cheshire mansion for approximately $5.5 million CAD, and for Manchester City supporters hoping for a nostalgic return, this sale speaks volumes. The Belgian legend isn't planning a comeback.
Despite relocating to Munich two years ago, the 40-year-old former City captain had maintained ownership of the six-bedroom estate — until now. With a Bundesliga championship already under his belt as Bayern's manager and a Champions League semi-final showdown against PSG on the horizon, Kompany's focus is firmly planted in Germany.
Inside the luxury estate
This wasn't just another footballer's residence. The property was a statement piece. Spanning roughly 7,600 square feet across four levels and situated on nearly three-quarters of an acre in Cheshire's prestigious "Golden Triangle" — the wealthy enclave south of Manchester where Premier League stars have established roots for the past two decades.
The amenities read like a professional athlete's dream facility merged with a countryside manor: a 10-metre indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, changing facilities, and expansive open-concept living spaces with terraces overlooking pristine landscaped grounds. The outdoor space featured a mini football pitch that converted into a basketball court. It was designed for someone earning elite-level wages.
The sale didn't come quickly or easily. Kompany reportedly reduced the listing price by approximately $550,000 CAD last year, then made additional price cuts to finalize the transaction. Even in premium areas like Alderley Edge and Wilmslow — neighbourhoods specifically catering to high-end properties — the luxury market has experienced a slowdown. Properties under $2.7 million CAD are moving, but higher-priced estates are struggling. The buyer secured a significant discount, reflecting current market conditions.
Kompany's present reality
While real estate negotiations unfolded, Kompany was orchestrating one of Bayern Munich's strongest Champions League campaigns in recent memory. A thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid advanced them to the semi-finals, where PSG now awaits. He's also secured at the Allianz Arena with a contract running through 2029.
That contract extension tells the real story. The mansion sale simply reinforces it. Kompany isn't eyeing a return to English football — not to City, not to any other club. He's constructing something special in Bavaria, and Bayern's prospects for European success over the coming seasons look significantly brighter with him at the helm than they did 18 months ago.
The Cheshire era has officially ended. The estate now belongs to its new owner.
